MILAGRO (MIgrants and Local communities Actively GROwing together for inclusive societies) is a new European project coordinated by Nuova Associazione Culturale Ulisse (NACU) and co-funded by the CERV Programme (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values). Running from June 2024 to May 2026, MILAGRO reflects NACU’s ongoing commitment to intercultural education, community engagement, and inclusive citizenship.
Through MILAGRO, NACU continues its tradition of connecting people and cultures — this time focusing on collaboration between migrants and local communities to foster understanding, solidarity, and shared growth across Europe.
Coordinated by NACU in collaboration with Universiteit Utrecht in the Netherlands and Univerzitetska biblioteka Svetozar Marković (UBSM) in Serbia, alongside SIS Intercultural Study Abroad in Italy, the project draws inspiration from the experience of Home 4 the World, a local initiative launched in Siena in 2022 in response to the humanitarian crisis following the war in Ukraine.
Home 4 the World, initially conceived as an information desk for refugees and asylum seekers—first Ukrainians and later Pakistanis and Afghans arriving via the Balkan route—quickly became a safe space for hospitality, intercultural dialogue, and inclusion. Its activities include Italian language classes, citizenship education, storytelling workshops, thematic seminars, cooking sessions, and sports activities.
MILAGRO continues and scales up this mission at a European level, aiming to bring local and migrant communities closer together, strengthen democratic competences, and foster relationships founded on mutual respect, solidarity, and understanding. More than the local initiative, MILAGRO places even greater emphasis on the active involvement of the host society, rooted in the belief that inclusion is a collective process that involves the entire community.
